WHO seeks to recruit a Technical Officer (Public Health) for its Palestine office. The Officer plays a key role in shaping, implementing and supporting WHO’s programmes in Palestine and in liaising with the Ministry of Health
(MOH). Candidates must have extensive experience of the health sector, with excellent organizational, analytical and networking skills.Description of duties:
1-Maintain good communications and joint work with the MOH, the Palestine National Authority (PA) and other agencies.
2-Support the development and implementation of WHO’s work with the MOH on noncommunicable diseases (NCD), including:
-Supporting the implementation of activities at health facility level and district level
-Supporting data collection at facility level and ensuring that reporting requirements are fulfilled
-Supporting the work of the national NCD unit
-Supporting the MOH in NCD prevention activities
3-Support the development and implementation of WHO’s work with the MOH on family medicine.
4-Assist in managing the implementation of the Joint Programme Review Mission (JPRM) though:
-Liaising with partners on issues of implementation
-Preparing plans and following up implementation of activities
-Organizing and following up on training activities
-Ensuring that reporting requirements are fulfilled
5-Produce activity reports as agreed with supervisor.
6-Carry out, as needed, other duties in support of WHO’s work in Palestine.
7-Represent WHO at meetings and workshops.
8-Facilitate technical support of WHO regional and HQ office activities in support of the MOH.

Functional skills and knowledge:
-Knowledge of the national health system structure and functioning; ability to rapidly access related information and to interpret critical issues.
-Experience in non-communicable diseases programs an asset.
-Excellent organizational, management, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Education:
- Essential: Medical doctor with degree from a recognized university
-Master’s degree in public health is desirable.
Experience:
-At least 5 years of clinical experience in primary health care.
-Experience in the field of public health an asset; previous work experience with UN agencies or NGOs an asset.
Other:
-Excellent command of English and Arabic
-Competence in use of basic statistical software an asset
Duty station, type and duration of contract:
Duty station is Jerusalem with regular travel within the West Bank. SSA contract for 10 months with possibility of extension.
